Letters to Charlotte: 15-22 months

Well, don't we have a lot to cover! You're a very active 22 month old. You've started saying quite a few words and are pretty much understanding everything we say.

Stats:
You weigh in right around 21.5 lbs - holding steady there for quite a while! We just recently moved you to forward facing in the car. Your legs just got soo long and it got really difficult to fit you into the seat backwards. You're still wearing mostly 18 month clothes, but they're getting too short. Luckily it's summer time so it hasn't impacted us too much. You can wear 18 month clothes, and your legs are long enough for 24 month pants - but your waist missed the memo. Most things 18 month are still loose around your little waist. I think you just move so much that you can't keep up! I KNOW you're eating, you don't stop eating. Snacking alllllll day long. You just moved up to a size 6.5/7 shoe. 6.5 in your sandals, but 7 in your tennis shoes. You have a lot of hair now, and it's getting long. We mostly put it up in either pig tails or a pony tail to keep it out of your face. You didn't seem to care that it was in your face until the last few weeks - and now you're moving it out of the way.

Activity:
Oh boy are you active. Just last night you were running around the house playing and hit your head twice (twice!!) in the span of about 5 minutes. Earned you a nice, pretty bump on the forehead. You're constantly covered in bruises too. You're pretty clumsy, falling all the time - but you get right back up! Doesn't faze you at all. Lots of skinned knees lately. You've also started climbing all the time. Up onto the table, anywhere really. It's pretty cool how coordinated you've gotten. You've got great balance and no fear. Within the last week you've discovered how to open doors - prompting a quick trip to buy some more baby proofing stuff. You have pretty great balance and are really thriving at your weekly gym classes. I think your favorite thing to do is to chase Crew and get him to chase you back. You giggle and laugh so hard when he chases you and barks at you! You also really like to be a helper. You started helping Daddy load the washing machine and the dryer, the dishwasher, etc. When we get groceries, you like to carry things in from the car. You are small, but mighty!

School:
You got moved into a new room at school in March. The transition was tough. You had grown very attached to your teacher, Ms. Toni. Oh man do you love her! Lots of hugs and kisses and anytime you're upset you always wanted Ms. Toni. She taught you a little sign language - you can sign "more" and "all done", so that's be really fun. She was in the process of teaching you more when you moved to the new room. Ms. Toni helped us wean you off of your paci, so you stopped using that around February. You also stopped getting diaper rashes! Yay! In your new room, as I said it took a long time for you to adjust. However, you love your new teacher now just as much as Ms. Toni! For a long time, when we would leave at the end of the day, you'd still stop in and see Ms. Toni and get a snack for the road. But now Ms. Lindzie is your favorite too! If she's not there, you don't want to go into your classroom. If she's walking in when we get there in the morning, you go with her and totally forget about Mommy, Daddy and Savannah. One day when we were leaving, I'd just strapped you into the seat and you saw Ms. Lindzie and said "Bye-bye" and waved to her! You've also picked up a few things she says, and you love dancing to Frozen with her. They've helped you move off of sippy cups at school, so you drink out of a normal glass like a big girl! You're eating great, still taking 2 hr naps, and seeming to really love it. When Savannah started to school, you had a tough few weeks because you didn't want her to leave you. You've also regressed to sucking on your fingers (and I do mean fingers, you alternate between all of them - both hands!). Overall, you are still really loving school and get so excited to go every morning. Everyone knows who you are!

Books, Games, and Movies!
We'll start with movies. You are obsessed with Frozen and Monsters Inc/Monsters U. I mean, obsessed. You will drop what you're doing if those come on. And you'll sit still and watch the whole thing! You don't really have any interest in any shows on TV (although you do sit with Mommy and watch Friends sometimes!) - and other movies don't really hold your attention either. I downloaded the soundtrack for Frozen, and you really love listening to it too. We have video of you mimic-ing what you see on Frozen. Your favorite is Princess Anna. For Monsters, on Monsters U you will mimic one of the monsters at the beginning. He's a slug that's going to be late to class, so he starts pumping his arms back and forth really fast trying to make himself go faster. You do the same thing when he comes on! You also like when Mike and Sulley are practicing how to Scare. You hold up your arms and growl too! And when they go to the fraternity/sorority party - you dance along with them! It's precious.
You don't really play many games yet. You'll play with the ones on your iPad or iPod, but we don't give those to you very often. For the most part, you just go from one activity to the next, each holding your attention for usually less than 5 min. You LOVE coloring books. First it started with just straight lines, but you're starting to actually color. We picked up some sidewalk chalk on a whim one day to see what you'd do - and oh man you LOVED it. You don't really like anyone else's drawings, if you see us draw something, you get up and strike your lines all over it. You're also a big fan of bubbles. You'd gone after them at the Little Gym of course, because they bring them out at the end of every class. So your Mamaw got you a bubble machine for the house. You and Crew have a blast in the backyard chasing the bubbles! So much so that we've now been through 2 bubble machines and are now on our 3rd. Not much bubble action lately though, any time we go outside you immediately get swarmed by mosquitoes. They are absolutely terrible lately, and nothing we do seems to help!

Books - you're like your mommy, you LOVE books. You get a minimum of 1 book read to you every night. We've converted one of the shelves of the entertainment center to hold your books because you just love flipping through all of them. Goodnight Aggieland is your one mandatory book every night. You point out every Reveille and at the very end you tell her good night and give her a hug (put your face up to the book) and a kiss! You even say Aggie now when you see the book - just in time for football season I might add. You also really like Huggy Kissy, You're My Little Lovebug, Octopus Opposites, and You Are My Sunshine. We like to point out different parts of each book and you say the words - it's pretty cute.

Talking:
You are going to be quite the chatterbox when you start stringing sentences together. You are a big mimic, so we have to watch what we say. "Uh-oh" is heard most often. When the phone rings, when we get a text message, when you drop anything - I mean, uh-oh is your go-to word. Some of the others you say as of now are: Oopsie, Gone-gone, bye-bye, hi, aggie, mama, dada/daddy, mine, yes, you shake your head no but don't quite say it yet, fish, the list goes on! Every day you pick up words and you babble like crazy. Here are a few funny things that you do when we ask you these questions:
How do you Scare - arms up and you growl
What sound does a .... make? You know the sounds for Fish, Cow, Tiger, Crew, Monster, Duck, Sheep, and I think I'm missing some.
Touchdown! - You've started saying it as well as throwing up the touchdown sign

Health:
You've had a tough few months. In March you kept running these really, really high fevers and we could not figure out what was wrong. Finally our pediatrician decided to check for a UTI - so you had to get a catheter done. That was HORRIBLE. You were traumatized, but it was a good thing we did it because that's what was wrong. You missed several days of school and are now terrified of doctors and their offices. Poor Dr. Chelius, when we went in for your ear check up so he could check on your tubes, you screamed the entire time! Good news is that your tubes still look perfect! You battle the typical cold/allergies. The UTI was by far the worst thing you've had. I think those were your hardest 3 weeks so far! Boy were we glad when they figured it out and gave you the right medicine. You've also gotten into the tantrum phase. Lots and lots of screaming and crying for no reason. It's better now, but I'd say from March - June it was pretty rough. Most of it stemmed from you not being able to tell us what you wanted. Some was from all the changes you were going through. Being able to communicate better has made the tantrums less frequent. Now when you have them it's usually because you aren't getting your way!

Other fun stuff:
You moved rooms in March, and at the same time we converted your crib into the toddler bed. It was a convertible crib, so we just removed the front side and replaced it with the toddler rail. You loved it! You took to it immediately and did great. We had a few months where you didn't want to go to sleep. We had to slowly creep out of the room or wait until you were totally asleep before we could leave. Some times we have to leave the door open until you're asleep. But once you're down, you almost always stay asleep until the next morning. You only wake up if something wakes you up, like if you get your foot stuck or if you have a night mare. You have a wake up routine with your Daddy where you put your monkey lovie back away, you turn your seahorse on and off, the tranquil turtle on and off, and put your blanket in the corner - all before getting out of bed. But that's a Daddy only ritual, if Mommy comes in you get all thrown off and don't do it! We alternate who gives you a bath each night, so you do fun things with each of us. You do a really great job at brushing your teeth (we brush for you, but you don't protest and open wide for us!). You still don't like to get your hair washed, but most nights you let us do it without crying.

BIG SISTER!
You're a big sister now, and you are the BEST big sister. You just love Savannah so much. From Day 1 you give her kisses every day. We ask if you want to hold her and you get SO excited. You run to the nearest couch or chair and push yourself all the way to the back so we can set her in your lap. If we have her on the floor with her toys, you lay down right next to her. You love that we've brought out all the baby toys, and you are constantly playing the bouncer, the bumbo, the mama roo, all of it. You get so excited when you see her, and she loves you just as much. You get big smiles from Savannah, and get so happy to see her. Usually she gets a greeting before you say hi to Mommy and Daddy! And you get a little territorial of her too. That's YOUR baby sister.

CREW!
Words can't really express how much you and Crew love each other. You are totally BFF's and it's so cute I can't stand it.

Wow - so much information - I doubt anyone is still reading! You continue to be so much fun and are such a wonderful blessing in our lives. You light up the room and make everyone smile and laugh. So fun, loving - always the center of attention. You're a little firecracker and you don't let anyone push you around. You know exactly what you want - it's just a matter of communicating it. We love you so, so much!!

*I'll add more pictures/videos in a separate post! But here's my favorite of you from this time period!
