Letters to Charlotte: 9 months old!

Dear Charlotte -

This post is a little delayed, but I have to write down everything you're doing. It's so much I find it hard to keep track!

This past month started off a little on the rough side. You had ear infections in both ears, and are apparently resistant to medications. We went through 3 different antibiotics until we found one that you responded to. It was a good thing to, if that last one didn't work you would have had to get shots! No one likes those. As a result of the ear infections, your eating/sleeping habits were a little off. For the most part you still drink about the same amount of formula, 4-6 oz, but when your ears hurt it trends toward the lower end. Good news is that you LOVE your solids. You polish off a pouch of food so fast - sometimes if you're really hungry you'll just eat it straight from the pouch. You don't need a bowl or a spoon at all, it's pretty funny. However, that can get just as messy - especially when you squeeze the pouch when you're not eating from it. Food everywhere! We also give you lots of snacks now. You tend to like the Gerber puffs the best, they're easier for you to hold on to. I've tried giving you puffs and cheerios, but you cough and gag until you make yourself throw them up. You also like any frozen fruit, bananas being your favorite. Teething biscuits, anything on our plates - you name it, you'll try it! You have really become fascinated with our foods - and seem to like bread the best so far. I'm just happy that you don't seem to be very picky so far! Except with Broccoli, you don't seem to enjoy that whatsoever.

You've made great strides in your walking/crawling. You love crawling all over the place, and you're really good and pulling up on things. As soon as you get over to something that you can pull up on, you're standing. After you figured that out, it wasn't long before you realized that you could navigate around things (as long as you're holding on). The coffee table is your favorite, you pull up on it and side step around it, all while pulling everything down onto the floor. We keep it pretty empty now-a-days. You're up on your feet so much that your Daddy and I decided it was time to go get you some shoes! You've now got a few pairs of shoes, and boy did that help with your confidence level in walking! You are so much more stable and secure when you've got your shoes on. And you don't kick these off (amazing what a difference a good pair of shoes makes!).

We took a trip to Baton Rouge, your first, to see your Aunt Lindsay graduate from LSU. You got to meet most of the relatives there, and boy were you a hit! We'd be out at dinner and everyone just watched you - you're so captivating. You did pretty well, other than at night. I don't think you liked sleeping somewhere new, so it took a couple of nights for you to get adjusted. You're used to your crib and I didn't realize how much you'd miss that! You woke up all the time. The morning we were leaving, you also took another little spill and earned yourself your first shiner! So all of the photos from the trip document that little black eye and rug burn on your eyebrow. Oh well! You traveled really well, slept half the way and just played the other half. Didn't get too upset with the car seat until the very end, and I just pulled out Beauty and the Beast on the iPad and played Be Our Guest continuously. That app is the best thing ever for you, it's actually the full book. It includes BOG and the Beauty & the Beast song and actually plays the full scene from the movie. When BOG comes on it puts you in a total trance and you want to watch it over and over and over. Even if you just hear the song on the iPod, same thing! Patrick also showed me a few fisher price apps for the iphone, and you really like those too. You also really love to pat/bang on things.

You continue to be such a joy, so happy and smiley all the time. You have such a great time playing and interacting with people. Your puppy is your absolute favorite. I went through my phone one day and showed you pictures of the family, and Crew is the only one that brought a big grin to your face! You follow him around and love to watch him run and play. He's so sweet with you, when you're sitting still playing, he comes and lays right next to you. He lets you pat him and crawl all over him, so he loves you quite a bit too! You are so vocal, when you're able to start talking we're really in for it I believe! We love you so much and can't wait to see what this next month has in store! Who knows - maybe you'll be walking by then!!
